A golf simulator is a system, not a single purchase. Plan the room, the tracking hardware, and the playing experience together.
Start with the space you actually have
Record the usable width, length, and ceiling height. Note beams, lights, garage-door tracks, doors, and storage that might intrude into the swing area. Consider everyone who will use the room, including left- and right-handed players. Do not assume a room is suitable just because a package fits on paper: check clearances and installation instructions for the exact equipment.
Choose your launch monitor around the room
Compare where the device sits, how much ball flight it needs, its indoor requirements, and how it handles different player positions. Separate measured data from calculated estimates. A longer data list does not automatically make a product the better fit for your practice goals.
Before ordering, check the manufacturer’s current supported software, required licenses, compatible devices, and any paid features. Model names and hardware generations matter when comparing bundles.
Plan the hitting area and ball containment
The mat, impact screen or net, enclosure, and surrounding protection need to work as a complete hitting area. Check the manufacturer’s placement guidance, clearance behind the screen, mounting method, and recommended use. Keep people, pets, and fragile objects outside the hitting zone.
Look beyond the mat’s headline dimensions. Think about stance space, the replaceable hitting area, floor height, storage, and whether the layout accommodates both handednesses without moving expensive hardware.
Match the image to the enclosure
Check screen aspect ratio, projector placement, throw distance, mounting clearance, and the computer’s output. Plan cables and power before fixing the projector in place. A bright projector cannot correct a layout that puts the player directly in its beam.
Compare complete ownership cost
- Launch monitor, enclosure, screen or net, and mat.
- Computer or supported mobile device, projector or display, and mounts.
- Software licenses, subscriptions, and optional data packages.
- Flooring, protection, delivery, installation, and replacement wear parts.
Build a written list of what each package includes. Check warranty coverage, seller support, return conditions, and any exclusions before purchasing.
